Discussions highlighted the ethical treatment of AI and the importance of community leadership in navigating technological disruptions. Notable insights included the accessibility of computing resources and the evolving role of AI in education and professional practices.
A diverse group gathered in Vancouver to discuss Canada's AI future, emphasizing the need for community voices in the AI strategy. The AI Ethical Futures Lab highlighted five key themes: the importance of inclusivity in AI, the necessity of education, the metaphor of building a "bigger boat" for collaboration, the generational gap in AI adaptation, and the need for Canada to maintain sovereignty over AI development. The session concluded with a call for ongoing dialogue and participation in shaping AI policy, contrasting with the government's industry-dominated approach.
