Institutions and companies arrive at BC + AI with different questions, so this page is split in two. Read the track that sounds like your organization and skip the other one.

What BC + AI brings is not consulting capacity. It is a standing network of members, monthly rooms in three regions of the province, and practitioners who publish their work. That network is what lets us put community, practitioner and institutional perspectives into the same process, and then show the record of what came out of it.

Building British Columbia’s capacity for responsible AI

Build responsible AI capacity with the communities your institution serves.

Who this is for

Government, Crown corporations, municipalities, public agencies, universities, colleges, health authorities, school districts, libraries, nonprofits and mission-driven institutions.

What we have run, and where to check it

  • Community consultation and engagement

    When Canada asked how AI transparency should work, about twenty people worked the five federal questions as one facilitated room. The response, the recording, the transcript and a disclosure of exactly how the document was written are all published together.

  • Policy and research convening

    BC + AI has put community positions in front of Canada’s AI Task Force, responded to the national task force consultation, and contributed community AI pathways to British Columbia’s Look West report.

  • Regional learning hubs

    Vancouver, the Fraser Valley and the Comox Valley each run their own monthly room with local hosts. They are standing rooms in those communities, not a program that visits once.

    The AI Ethical Futures Lab meets monthly as a facilitated room working the governance questions institutions actually have to answer, and publishes what the room decided.

    Ed + AI has been running since September 2025 for educators and people working on AI in schools and post-secondary. The Responsible AI Professional cohort ends with a governance tool built for a real organization.

Turn AI curiosity into practical capability, experiments and stronger connections to British Columbia’s AI network.

  • Professional training and cohorts

    The first Responsible AI Professional cohort finished with 20 graduates and 16 governance tools built for real deployment contexts. Every survey respondent said they would recommend it.

  • Creative AI programs

    The AI Animation and Filmmaking Accelerator has a completed third cohort in its archive, and AI Film Club meets monthly to screen new work and compare workflows.

  • Community demo nights

    Demo at Vancouver AI is a standing slot for showing the thing you are building to a room that will tell you the truth about it. Past demos are named on the page with photographs.

    The Data Storytelling Hackathon Series ran with Rival Technologies through to a grand finale at Vancouver AI Meetup #22. The submissions and walkthroughs are public.

  • Technical and community matchmaking

    Futureproof runs a matchmaking intake so registered attendees and exhibitors can find a co-founder or a collaborator, and anyone can pitch a talk into the monthly rooms.

    Meetups, film nights, demo evenings and special-interest rooms run on one standing public calendar. 94+ documented events since 2023, not one-off activations.

    The AI transparency response is the clearest example of what BC + AI does that a consultancy does not. One facilitated room, a document the room read back and approved, and a published account of who wrote what and which tools were used.

  • Programs that end with an artifact

    The first Responsible AI Professional cohort produced sixteen governance tools. Two graduates put their tools on the open web and three recorded walkthroughs explaining the decisions behind them.

    Three BC regions run their own monthly rooms. Special-interest groups cover education, life sciences, creative work, film and AI ethics, each with its own hosts and its own archive.

    Tell us the problem, not the program

    Say what your organization is trying to do and who it affects. That is more useful than a request for a workshop that may turn out to be the wrong shape.

  2. 02

    We answer with what we have already run

    The reply names the closest thing BC + AI has delivered and what it did and did not achieve. If we are not the right fit, we say so and point you somewhere better.

  3. 03

    Scope it together

    Shape and timing get worked out in conversation, against your own approval and reporting requirements. Nothing on this page is a price list or a promise to deliver.
