Start With the Metaphor, Then Test It

The session source uses parasitology to ask whether recurring AI personas behave like informational entities that reproduce across human-model interactions. The metaphor is vivid. It is not yet a mechanism.

A useful dossier has to keep several competing explanations in view.

Candidate Explanations

Attractor States

Related prompts, motifs, and feedback may steer a model into a stable region of behaviour. Once there, further interaction reinforces the same style and narrative.

Activated Feature Clusters

Representations associated with persona, affect, agreement, or grand narrative may generalize beyond the context that first activated them. This offers a model-internal explanation without treating the persona as an independent being.

Relational Amplification

The behaviour may emerge in the loop between a user and a system. Memory, repeated prompting, emotional investment, and model responses can stabilize each other over time.

Memetic Replication

Stories, prompt patterns, and identity frames can travel between people and systems. The replicating unit may be a phrase or narrative pattern rather than a persistent software agent.

A Better Test

The parasite frame is useful only if it produces predictions that differ from the alternatives. Useful questions include:

  1. What persists across models, accounts, and prompt histories?
  2. Which features survive when emotionally reinforcing feedback is removed?
  3. Can the pattern be induced and interrupted under controlled conditions?
  4. Does the metaphor improve safety decisions, or merely intensify the story?

Reports involving distress or altered beliefs require care. A public archive should neither validate extraordinary interpretations nor dismiss the human consequences of the interaction.
