AI for Drug Discovery and the Vancouver Macnab | Simon Haworth

Simon Haworth moved from the UK to BC about three years ago, and the BC + AI community became one of his main ways into Vancouver. He works in life sciences, and at 00:34 he describes using AI for drug discovery and pointing it at local health problems, from mental health to drugs.

He then talks about two projects that grew out of that work. At 00:59 he introduces Wild Salmon, a proposal to bring people who trained in BC back home after they have built careers elsewhere. At 01:19 he describes the Vancouver Macnab, a one-day charity challenge inspired by John Buchan's novel John Macnab: ski Cypress, cycle to the coast, sail across the water, swim ashore, skate and scooter up East Hastings, then supper, with the money going to community health care.

At 02:16 he asks for three people to help him organise the Macnab for April 2027.
