Community Spotlight - Mauricio Penteado

Mauricio Penteado is a member of the BC + AI Life Sciences and Healthcare work group, which is working to raise the profile of AI in life sciences and health care across British Columbia.

He describes one of the group's initiatives: a project focused on Vancouver, and potentially expandable across BC, built in partnership with the Overdose Prevention Society. The intention is to help ease the crisis faced by the Downtown Eastside community, and the burden on OPS clients and the team supporting them.

Mauricio says he found the community through its mix of AI, arts, and societal discussion, and has wanted to get more involved ever since. For him, AI reaches well past the technical into every part of society, and the group is a forum to learn about its benefits and challenges and to work out how it can help the economy, society, and personal development.
