The first AI Film Club of 2026 launched with a simple pitch: why filmmakers, animators, and creative technologists are gathering around AI tools and new production workflows.
Daniela Gamarra showed how hand-drawn animation practice can meet AI-assisted workflows without losing the artist's hand, John Mutter shared generative film work built with AI as a production partner, and Luke Minaker talked about using AI animation to finally make work that once felt blocked by time, budget, or access. Michael Tippett brought an AI crime short and a conversation about what synthetic media changes in story development.
The night also carried a cluster of technical demos — local model management, AI soundtrack generation, and real-time creative engines — plus a production workflow built almost entirely on AI tools alongside conventional editing craft.
