Notes & highlights

This recording presents a proposed smartphone interpretation layer for analog home-test kits, not evidence of diagnostic performance. James Dean Waryk identifies himself as the founder of LifeScape Bioscience at 00:22. He says LifeScape resells health-technology products through retail and e-commerce at 00:36.

At 01:00, Waryk names Clenotech Diagnostics and Pharmaceuticals as a client. He describes its current products as analog home-test kits at 01:07, then says the plan is a smartphone app that digitizes and interprets the kits at 01:26. These are Waryk's descriptions of a client and proposed product. The interview does not provide clinical results, regulatory status, launch evidence, or proof that the app improves diagnostic accuracy.

The conversation later shifts from product plans to Waryk's founder advice. At 05:53, he argues that long-term business relationships remain important. At 06:43, he frames AI as a software tool while placing relationships at the centre of his approach. His practical suggestion for older newcomers is to begin with an AI use case tied to a hobby or niche they already know, offered at 08:05.

0:00Live from the Vancouver Convention Center, it's the BC Founders Day Vive Lounge with your host Kevin Friel. >> Welcome everyone to the uh uh BC Founders Day here at the Vancouver Convention Center, the West Building. It's a gorgeous day here to be here with BC Founders uh such as James James Dean. How you doing, James? I'm doing well.

0:22Hello everybody. I am James Dean Waryk and I am the founder of LifeScape Bioscience Incorporated. Thank you for allowing me to say a few words about my company. >> Yeah, tell us what what you're all about. Why are you here today? >> All right. Well, I'm here to network obviously, but Lifescape, what we do is we resell other health tech products and services, some of it direct through retail, some most of it through e-commerce. So, if you have an invention, you have an innovation in the health tech space, come see me.

0:54>> Awesome. Uh, who are the people that you're really excited about working with right now? Oh, I'm so excited. I have a great client called Clenotech Diagnostics and Pharmaceuticals Incorporated. And what they do is they sell analog health test kits for the home. Perhaps you had one of those home test kits yourself during CO. Their partners sold millions and millions and continue to sell millions of those kits.

1:18Well, guess what? They have over 100 different test kits for a variety of diseases and infections and of course drugs, >> right? And what we want to do is we're going to digitalize using an AI enhanced kit app that you use on your smartphone in order to digitalize those analog test kits. Okay.

1:39>> And I need to tell you that a billion of those kits are sold every year globally and we have our own inventions and innovations that we're also going to be selling. Back to you. >> Amazing. Um yeah, can you can you tell us about uh some other folks that you're really excited about? like obviously the testing is is a big uh use case there but what are what are some others that are perking your interest?

2:00>> Okay, I am a fractional CEO, CFO and COO. So I actually have about 20 clients just like a lawyer and accountant would have 20 clients and a new client of mine is actually into real estate construction >> believe it or not HVAC, electricity, plumbing. We're so excited because they're huge and they want to grow 10x in the next 60 years and then a 10x again in over a 10 years. So that becomes a hundred million to a billion dollar company and I get to play along with them.

2:31>> That's awesome. >> It is. That's a lot of fun. >> You're obviously very passionate and very enthus enthusiastic about working with all of your clients, getting them to the best that they can be. How did you get into this uh line of work in the first place? Well, I've actually been a business person for 48 years and I have my own company. There's a consulting company called Unique Media House Incorporated as well as LifeCape Bioscience Incorporated. And it all started 48 years ago when I first started going out creating events similar to this way back when and then of course networking networking over the years and then meeting people business people and eventually helping them more

3:09and more and more and more until I became a senior business consultant. I am an angel investor as well. So I invest my money directly into startups and other projects. And so people come to me. I don't need to advertise. people keep knocking on my door and I have 10 times more work than I can actually handle. So, it's a good thing.

3:27>> Yeah, that's awesome. Uh, tell us about like really how you got started. What what was your path into your 48-year uh entrepreneurship uh success story? >> Well, you you have it right. I have actually worked as an employee many times over my life and you know what happens, right? You're working for somebody else, you're making somebody else rich. Like, what's up with that?

3:50So, as I watched and I learned and I studied from my employers how they did business, I thought, I can do this. I can do better. And I'm sure that you have the same thought. I can do better than this or I can or I have an invention or I have an innovation I want to bring to market. So, that's a powerful feeling. It grabs you by the heart. It squeezes your heart and then it grabs you by the balls and shakes you and you wake up in the morning go, "Oh my god, I'm an entrepreneur." This is the happiest moment of my life.

4:22>> That That's incredible. You you you just uh uh uh absolutely soak us in enthusiasm and passion, and I'm sure that's a pretty powerful magnet uh for getting your your clients and and your good people up to where they need to be. Right. Exactly. If you don't have that level of energy, if you don't have that level of passion, you're not going to make it. You need to have this as a human being, as a business, to have that motivation, to have that inspiration, because you got to go out there and you got to compete with millions of other people, right? And so, you need that really extraordinary energy to make it to the top 1%. You want to be in the top

5:001%, you got to be like the top 1%. Right? Dedicated, disciplined, devoted, but also super passionate and emotional. That combination gets you to the top. and makes you a winner. I want you to be a winner. I want you to be a winner. >> Yeah. Let's all be winners. Absolutely. >> All All boats float, right? So, yeah.

5:20Yeah. You bet. >> Yeah. Um, obviously, you're here at BC uh Founders Day. There's a lot of folks that are that have a wide swath of experience. You're obviously on on the more experienced end. There's a lot of people just starting out as well, kind of mid tier. And let's face it, we're in a pretty different climate right now as well, uh, with everything going on in the world, right? What's what why are you here? What is what is everything in your experience suggests that you want to impress to others that are are kind of starting out or mid-tier kind of seeing everything and going what the hell do I do right now?

5:53>> Okay. Yes, it's a new normal. It's a new way to do business out there. But there's one thing that will never ever change and that's humanto human relationships. That is the number one most important thing that you can do in business because that's just the way it works and has worked for 6,000 years.

6:10So, I'm here to network because networking works as often as you possibly can. Go to events, go to meetings, >> meetings, meet human beings and have a relationship with them because a lot of the business that you're actually going to be doing will take 5 years, 10 years of relationships. Think of your mother.

6:30Your mother's going to invest in you cuz she knows you, right? But think if you meet a person for the very first time, are they going to invest in you? >> Are they going to sell for you? Are they going to help you? >> Not until they get to know you. >> Exactly. AI AI is good and I'm embracing AI and so are my my all of my partners because it is a software tool that's very useful and very effective.

6:53>> But the bottom line is this and that's why I'm here for the networking is the humanto human relationships. Thank you for that question. >> Yeah, amazing stuff. On the topic of AI, what are your favorite tools uh that you're deploying right now for yourself and for your clientele? >> Ah, great question. Now, I'm not a coder. My business partners are coders.

7:14They're fanatic. Even on the sitting on the toilet, they're coding, right? And AI has is magic to them. It's changed their lives. So, I depend on them to do the AI part. The scientists, the PhDs, the scientists, the coders, etc., etc. And we have coders all around the world in Africa, in Central Asia, in Asia, in Europe, in South America, and in North America. So all of these super intelligent people are embracing AI. So for me, because I'm 68 years old, I've seen it all. From manual typewriters to electric typewriters to computers, mind-blowing to the internet to smart devices, smartphones, and now AI for seniors because it's unfamiliar to us.

7:59Hey, you know, the fear of the unknown is a great fear. Yeah. And that's a big barrier. >> We have to work through our barriers. is we got to work through our fears and embrace the new embrace the future. So for AI particularly, just find a simple niche that you like, maybe a hobby for example, and just explore a little bit about what a how AI is affecting your hobby. Maybe it's dogs, maybe it's scuba diving, maybe it's collecting stamps, who knows? And just play in that area for a little while and see how AI is changing your hobby. And then you'll have that motivation, you'll have that inspiration to expand, expand, and look into it further. How's that?

8:42>> That's brilliant. Uh I think that that's a great uh launching point for people to to dive into this new frontier. It's been going for a while, but it's still so early yet, right? >> So early. I mean, look at where the internet was 30 years ago, >> and look where it is today.

8:58Mind-blowing. And AI is where the internet was 30 years from now. Go. So imagine AI 30 years from now. It'll be unrecognizable. It's not only AI, but it's robotics too. >> Yes. Right. Certainly. So you have the mechanical part of AI, machine learning and AI as well as the software component. And because uh some of my clients are manufacturers, they are implementing AI, AI cameras, vision, AI audio, AI sensors into their production, into their their sales as well so that they can compete, right? Reduce costs but also compete. So for them AI is essential. They have to embrace it. It's it's the sign of the times. And it and you know if if we launch into it with an

9:46open heart and open mind the the sky's is the limit right. >> It is >> absolutely >> having a lot of fun. >> Yeah. Having a lot of fun with you James. Thank you so much for coming by and sharing your passion and enthusiasm and knowledge. How can people get a hold of you? Okay. Well there you go. My name is James Dean Waryk. You can look up look me up on LinkedIn or just Google me and see what happens. My last name is W A R Y K. James Dean Waryk. Pleased to meet you.

10:16>> Pleased to meet you, James. Thank you so much. Kevin Friel, James Dean from BC Founders Day. Uh on behalf of BC AI uh ecosystem, over and out. We'll see you soon. I
