AI Ethical Futures Lab
Policy, consent, and the practical toolkits side of the AI conversation — the closest sister room to a data-and-security subgroup.
Topical subgroup · Forming
A new BC + AI room for the people who care how AI systems handle data, identity, infrastructure, and trust — privacy engineers, security practitioners, data stewards, governance leads, and the curious in between.
Status
We’re gathering a small host team and a real first agenda before opening a public meetup. If you build, operate, or govern data and security systems in BC and you’d like in early, drop us a line.
What this room is for
BC has banking, healthcare, public-sector, climate, indigenous data sovereignty, and a fast-growing AI startup scene all running on the same provincial infrastructure. The conversations about how AI systems handle that data — how they’re trained, secured, audited, and governed — deserve their own room.
Help shape it
Founding hosts, sponsors who care about the work (not the logo), and first-cohort participants who’ll show up to a small, working session before this room ever runs a public meetup.
In the meantime
BC + AI’s other subgroups are already touching parts of the data-and-security question — the AI Ethical Futures Lab on policy and consent, ED + AI on student data, Vancouver AI on the engineering practice. Until this room opens, those are the best places to plug in.
