Boilerplate (short)
The BC + AI Ecosystem Association is a Vancouver-based nonprofit building the public-interest AI community in British Columbia — connecting builders, artists, educators, researchers, founders, and civic voices through monthly meetups, hackathons, training programs, and policy work.
Boilerplate (medium)
BC + AI is a member-funded nonprofit growing the public-interest AI ecosystem in British Columbia. What started in 2024 as a single Vancouver meetup has become a province-wide community: regional chapters across Vancouver, Surrey, and the Comox Valley; special-interest groups for film, education, ethics, life sciences, and consciousness; the Animation Accelerator and Responsible AI Professional certification programs; and an annual Futureproof Festival. The association represents British Columbia’s AI community in conversations with government, universities, and industry — and exists to make sure AI development in BC reflects the people who live here, not just the people who fund it.
Boilerplate (long)
The BC + AI Ecosystem Association is a Vancouver-based nonprofit dedicated to building the public-interest artificial intelligence community in British Columbia. Founded out of the Vancouver AI Community Meetup — which began in 2024 and grew to draw 200+ builders, artists, educators, researchers, founders, and civic voices to monthly gatherings — BC + AI formalized as a nonprofit when the work outgrew what one room could hold.
Today the association runs a portfolio of programs: regional community chapters in Vancouver, Surrey, and the Comox Valley; special-interest groups for AI in education, AI ethics and policy, AI in film, AI in life sciences, and the philosophy of mind and consciousness; the Animation Accelerator program for AI-assisted filmmaking; the Responsible AI Professional certification for governance practitioners; and the Futureproof Festival, an annual ecosystem gathering.
BC + AI’s role in the broader policy environment includes contributing to Canada’s federal AI Task Force consultations, partnering with universities and provincial agencies on workforce and research programs, and convening the conversation about what responsible, regionally-grounded AI development looks like for British Columbia.
